Gŵyl Nawr  – Swansea Volcano Theatre

Matthew Lovett (drums) and Helen Papaioannou (bari. sax.) join John Rowley and Medi Evans for an improvised spoken word/musical performance of Angharad Davies’s photographic score Rydal Mount, with images coordinated by Mike Pearson.

This performance is part of a day-long music and film festival in support of local refugee causes. Featuring Clive Bell, Douglas Benford, Rhodri Davies, Helen Petts, Aura Satz, Richard Thomas, Ian Watson, Jenn Kirby, David Garner, and more.

Forgetting to Remember

Five pairs of female scientists and composer/performers showcase their collaborative work at the Sage Gateshead in a café style gathering. We’ll be showing the science ‘being done’ in games led by the scientists and musicians.

In partnership with Minerva Scientifica, the project draws from researchers across the faculties of medical science, agriculture and engineering, and humanities and social science at Newcastle University.

Oxfordshire Exoplanets    electroacoustic composition

Family Day at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot, Oxfordshire (in partnership with RAL Space/STFC)

Presentation of composition which used children’s compositions as source material following a project series in Oxfordshire primary schools. Myself and astronomer Chris Pearson from RAL Space led workshops exploring the solar system, culminating in the children’s creation of their own exoplanets and musical compositions.

Premiere of Fractured Moulds, Scattered Signals and Metal Clay

This concert is the culmination of the first year of my residency with LSO Soundhub at LSO St. Luke’s, which includes the premiere of two 10minute pieces.

Fractured Moulds, Scattered Signals grew out of a series of workshops that I ran in Autumn/Winter 2013 which explored musical games through various types of notation. The 9-piece ensemble includes percussion x 2, trumpet, bass guitar, piano, synthesiser x 2, female voice, violin.

The second piece is for the percussion duo of Renzo Spiteri and Michael Speers, who will be using a setup of metallic instruments.
